T3 was formed in the summer of 2008 and since then has organised a series of public events.
Our first event in September 2008 was Skilling up for Powerdown, with Davie Philip from Cultivate. This presentation used animation and positive examples of community farms and community power as examples of how people around the world are stepping up to the challenge to powerdown.
The participants worked in groups of 10 to 12 people after the event to create headlines for a Tramore newspaper circa 2020. The results arehere.
Power of Community is a powerful story of community resiliance from Cuba. A large group including local scouts gathered to watch how every space was used to grow food in a bid to beat oil shortages in a story which could be a useful reference for how to cope with peak oil. After the film a group exercise in outlining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that would pertain to Tramore, in facing the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change. These are the results.
Graham Stouts came to Tramore on November 21 2008 and addressed a group about the potential for creating a kitchen garden, using permaculture principles including unusual edible perennial plants and the ‘no-dig’ method. Read what Graham wrote about his visit here.
The first event organised by the T3 Food Growers group was in the library in Tramoe on April 1 and despite the foolish inclination of the date, many people came and listened to the reasons why Transition cares about growing food and the many pleasures to be gained from producing one’s own food from guest speaker Michael Kelly of Waterford Food Producers’ Group. Read more here.
The Energy Show took place on April 5 in Tramore Racecouse from 2pm to 6pm. During this time, over 3000 people attended to find out more about alternative clean energy options for the future. This was a great success and a big thank you to everyone who made it possible, particularly Tramore Credit Union whose sponsored the event, the local businesses who organised stands, and all the event volunteers and helpers.
The Food Growers group meets regularly on the first Wednesday of every month, in different venues around Tramore. Each meeting has a slightly different format which aims to facilitate sharing of knowledge and experience in an informal and friendly atmosphere. All ideas for future meetings and events are welcomed.
Transition Town is for everyone and if you have an idea for an event or meeting, please get in touch with anyone from the group or email us at info@t3.ie and let us know.
